8 oz. English Leicester Longwool Locks - Custom Dyed in the Spring Mix colorway.

English Leicester Longwool was the breed of choice in Colonial America. Correspondence from Thomas Jefferson and George Washington indicated that they each had large flocks of this efficient breed. But as the breed fell from favor, it eventually became extinct in the U.S.  Through the efforts of the Livestock Department at Colonial Williamsburg in cooperation with the members of the English Leicester Longwool Breeders' Association, the numbers of registered Leicesters in this country are up to 500 registered animals. Sadly, the numbers in other parts of the world are declining, and the breed is now on the critical list.

Cold Water Hand Wash ONLY

We love our planet and it's animals and to that end we keep our process as eco-friendly as possible.  We start by locally sourcing as many of our materials as possible.  This has allowed us to insure the animals that provide our wool are being cared for in a loving manner.  We then hand skirt each fleece and gently wash the wool to ready it for dying (small traces of VM may be present in the final product due to our hand washing methods).  By avoiding all the harsh chemicals used in commercial processing we are able to provide you a color fast wool that retains its natural characteristics  such as warmth, crimp, moisturizing oils, and natural sheen.  Then comes the fun part, adding COLOR!! We hand mix and match our dyes to produce both subtle and bright pigments that help draw you in and steal your breath away.  Color and texture are an artist's best friend, we are here to help you enjoy those in an earth friendly way!
